Viral in cyberspace, a video of a passenger slapping an airport officer. Apparently, he became angry after realizing the officers had smuggled drugs into his luggage.
Reported Nigerian Ripples, Sunday (21/1/2024) the passenger’s anger was caught on video and went viral. The action was recorded at Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. A passenger was seen slapping a man.
The staff was caught on hidden camera trying to put something into a passenger’s luggage. It is believed that this object is an illegal drug, aka narcotics.

“Tell me what this drug contains,” said the passenger, slapping the man. You can see him kneeling in front of this angry passenger.
Responding to the viral video, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said that the man captured in the viral video is not a staff member of the agency. According to a statement issued by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, it was confirmed that the incident occurred at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Tuesday (16/1/2024) at around 14.30 local time.
FAAN said the perpetrator had been identified as a staff member of Pathfinder, a private company in the country. However, his name was not mentioned in the statement.
“The employee was said to have approached a passenger to help him deliver a parcel through the flight. The passenger became suspicious, he raised the alarm and alleged that he was being framed for drug smuggling,” wrote FAAN.
The employee was immediately arrested for questioning by the Aviation Security Agency’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Unit. And the passengers involved had departed on Ibom Air for Accra.
Meanwhile, the drugs identified as narcotics have been taken to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
“FAAN is dedicated to a drug-free society and has zero tolerance for drug smuggling through its airports,” the statement said.
Pathfinder is a concession/private company that collaborates with airlines at airports. The company has not commented on this matter.
The video sparked reactions from Nigerians who expressed concern. Previously, many innocent citizens had been accused of drug trafficking through similar actions. They also urged the authorities to properly investigate the matter to prevent similar incidents in the future.
