Chandigarh: Haryana cabinet on Tuesday approved the much awaited “The Haryana Registration and Regulation of Travel Agents Bill, 2024” to prevent unemployed youth from falling prey to illegal immigration rackets.
State government has been forced to bring the bill in the wake of disturbing trend of individuals, particularly from Punjab and Haryana, being deceived by corrupt travel agents engaged in fraudulent activities related to immigration.
The bill mentions that no person can undertake the profession of a travel agent without obtaining a registration certificate. An application has to be submitted to the competent authority with required documents, fees, and within the specified time, the authority may issue a registration certificate after verifying the details.
The bill mentions the certificate will not be issued unless particulars are verified by police. The validity of a registration certificate will be for three years, renewable as per prescribed procedures. Also, opening a new office or branch will require obtaining a fresh registration certificate. The competent authority can cancel a registration certificate for various reasons such as insolvency, criminal activities, violation of terms after issuing a show-cause notice. The bill adds that suspension may occur for a specified period pending cancellation that debars the travel

Ryanair has said that it has seen a drop in the number of tickets it has been able to sell after a number of major online booking websites stripped the budget carrier’s flights from their listings.

Europe’s largest airline said that in early December “most” of the largest online travel agent sites – including Booking.com, Kiwi and Kayak – “suddenly removed Ryanair’s flights from sale on their websites”.

The airline said that while these travel sites only accounted for a “small fraction” of Ryanair’s bookings, the sudden removal had affected its load factor by “1% to 2%” in December and January, and would “soften short-term yields” .

Load factor is the percentage of available seats that an airline is able to sell on each flight. Ryanair said that it had responded by releasing more lower-priced fares to consumers directly through its own website.

In December, the airline announced a 10% discount sale on more than 400,000 fares for travel between January and the end of March.

Ryanair said the removal of its flights from the travel websites would not materially affect its full-year financial forecasts for passenger numbers or profits.
